Privacy Policy

Summary
Most of Play Premodern works without an account and without collecting anything personal. Some features — the sideboard planner, the league tracker, published guides, event submissions and the newsletter — do need an account or an email address. This page explains exactly what is stored in those cases, and how to get it deleted.
1. Browsing the site
You can browse every public page — decklists, guides, the metagame explorer, the blog — without signing in. While you browse, these third-party services receive data:
- Vercel Web Analytics — privacy-friendly, cookieless traffic analytics (page views, referrers, approximate location, browser/device type). It sets no cookies and collects no personally identifiable information. Vercel's privacy policy.
- Vercel Speed Insights — anonymous performance metrics about page load times. Vercel's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics 4 — audience measurement: which pages and decks are visited, roughly where visitors are, and which browser/device they use. It sets cookies (
_ga,_ga_<id>) to recognise a returning browser. We use it only to understand traffic — we run no ads, no remarketing and no cross-site tracking. Google's privacy policy, and Google's opt-out add-on if you'd rather not be counted. - Scryfall — card images are loaded directly from Scryfall's CDN. They may log standard server access information. Scryfall's privacy policy.
2. Accounts
Signing in is optional and only needed for the planner, the league tracker, publishing a guide, or submitting an event. Accounts are handled by Firebase Authentication (Google Cloud), either with an email and password or with Google sign-in. We store your account identifier, email address, and — if you set them — a display name, avatar image and social links.
Your display name, avatar and social links form a public profile: anyone who has your profile link can read them. Your email address is never shown publicly. Google reCAPTCHA is used to protect sign-in from bots. See Firebase's privacy documentation.
3. What signed-in features store
The following is stored in Google Firestore, tied to your account. Security rules restrict each record to its owner unless noted otherwise.
- Sideboard Planner — the decks you save (card lists) and the sideboard plans you write for each matchup. Private to you until you choose to publish a guide.
- League Tracker — your league runs: the deck you registered, its card list at the time, and each match's opponent archetype, result, game scores, and anything you type into the optional notes, opponent handle or per-game fields. Private to you. If you record an opponent's MTGO handle, you are storing another person's pseudonymous identifier — please keep those notes factual.
- Published guides — guides you publish are public by design and carry your display name as the author.
- Event submissions — the event details and any flyer image you upload, plus a hashed identifier used to show you your own submissions. Approved events are public.
- Newsletter — if you subscribe, your email address and subscription status. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
We do not sell, rent or share any of this, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
4. Cookies
We use advertising cookies nowhere on this site, and we never track you across other websites. We do use analytics cookies: Google Analytics sets _ga and _ga_<id> to tell returning browsers apart. Our other traffic analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) is cookieless. If you sign in, authentication and bot-protection (Google reCAPTCHA) may set functional cookies needed to keep you signed in and keep the site secure.
You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on, and the whole public site still works.
5. How we use the data
Traffic analytics help us understand which decks and pages are popular, fix slow-loading pages, and prioritize what content to add. We look at it in aggregate — we do not try to identify individual visitors. Account data is used only to run the feature you asked for — to show you your own decks, runs and guides, and to send the newsletter if you subscribed. We never sell, share, or otherwise distribute any of it.
6. Retention and deletion
Your decks, league runs and profile stay until you delete them or ask us to delete your account. You can delete individual decks and runs yourself at any time from the planner and the tracker, export your match history as CSV from the tracker, and unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email.
To have your account and everything attached to it deleted, contact us using the details below and we will remove it.
7. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Your rights
If you are in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to its processing. For anything stored under your account, contact us and we will action it. For the third-party services listed above, see their own privacy policies.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site means acceptance of the updated policy.
