Mono Black
Hypnotic Specter on turn one off Dark Ritual. Strip their hand with Duress and Cabal Therapy. Engineered Plague kills tribal decks dead.
Game plan
Disruption-heavy mono-black built around the explosive power of Dark Ritual. The ritual gives you three black mana for one — meaning a turn-one Swamp + Dark Ritual deploys Hypnotic Specter a full turn early, a flyer that forces a random discard every time it connects (from turn two on). Few decks can survive that opening.
Duress and Cabal Therapy are the disruption engine. Duress sees their hand and takes any noncreature, nonland card — counterspells included. Therapy names a card and removes all copies — it can be cast for free by sacrificing a creature. Together they strip 2–3 key cards on turns 1–2, leaving the opponent in top-deck mode.
Engineered Plague is the reason Goblins and Elves players dread seeing this deck across the table: name a creature type, all creatures of that type get -1/-1. For Goblins, this makes Mogg Fanatic and Goblin Lackey 0/0s (dead). For Elves, it kills Llanowar Elves and Fyndhorn Elves. One card answers entire archetypes.
Withered Wretch exiles cards from any graveyard for one mana a pop — hate against Parallax Replenish and Full English Breakfast. Nantuko Shade is a pump-able finisher. Phyrexian Arena refuels by drawing an extra card per turn at the cost of 1 life.
Wasteland and Mishra’s Factory add land-destruction and manland threat to round out the disruption suite.
