October had 95 in-person Premodern tournaments with published results, from 9-player store nights to the 272-player Eurofest in Valencia. Between them: 2,770 players in 19 countries, and 609 decklists from the top tables. Every one of them is on our decklists page, and each event below links to its full results.
This report is paper only. For Magic Online, see the October MTGO Challenge report.
October at a glance
Organizers publish the decks that finished on top, not the whole field: the Top 8 at 59 events (a few are one list short), the Top 4 at the other 36. So the table counts top finishes, not how many people registered a deck.
| Deck | Top finishes | Share | Wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stiflenought | 51 | 8.4% | 6 |
| Enchantress | 48 | 7.9% | 10 |
| Goblins | 41 | 6.7% | 2 |
| Replenish | 40 | 6.6% | 8 |
| Terrageddon | 40 | 6.6% | 8 |
| Survival (all shells) | 39 | 6.4% | 6 |
| Landstill | 38 | 6.2% | 10 |
| Sligh | 37 | 6.1% | 4 |
| Moneyball Black | 25 | 4.1% | 3 |
| Stasis | 21 | 3.4% | 2 |
| Oath Ponza | 21 | 3.4% | 4 |
| Gro-A-Tog | 12 | 2.0% | 1 |
| BW Control | 11 | 1.8% | 2 |
| Elves | 11 | 1.8% | 3 |
| Reanimator | 10 | 1.6% | 2 |
| Psychatog | 10 | 1.6% | 1 |
| Everything else (50+ decks) | 154 | 25.3% | 24 |
No deck reached 9% of the top finishes, and 35 different decks won at least one event. A quarter of the lists that made a top table were something outside the top sixteen.
Enchantress and Landstill won ten each
Enchantress won 10 events, the biggest of them Finland Nationals (61 players, Lauri Achté) and the Pudraiser Supercup qualifier in Spain (36 players). Three of the ten came from one player: Orla88sp won the ELS league stops in Italy on October 8, 15 and 22.
Landstill also won 10, and it won big ones. Navas took the 189-player Eurofest side event in Valencia, Lorenzo Malucelli won the 116-player 4Seasons Main Event in Italy, and Brandon Pierson won the Saturday $1K at SCG CON Hartford.
Stiflenought made the most Top 8s
Stiflenought had 51 top finishes, more than any other deck, and 6 wins, one of them a shared first place in Toulon. At the European Premodern Masters it put three players into the Top 8, including finalist Pedro Dores, and lost the final to Elves.
Goblins is the other deck that made a lot of top tables without turning them into trophies: 41 top finishes, 2 wins.
Terrageddon and Replenish won eight each
Terrageddon won 8. On the Sunday of SCG CON Hartford it finished first and second in the $1K, and Jesse Adams won twice with it: the October Monthly at Gamers Guild AZ and the Friday $1K at SCG CON Los Angeles.
Replenish also won 8, spread over eight different players in six countries.
The big weekends
- Valencia, October 10–11. Three events, three different winners. Gro-A-Tog won the 272-player Eurofest open, Landstill the 189-player side event, and Iván de Castro’s Natural Order Elves the 110-player European Premodern Masters. Full story in our EPM report.
- SCG CON. The Premodern $1Ks at SCG CON Los Angeles (October 9–10) and Hartford (October 23–25), five events in all. The winners: Terrageddon twice, Replenish, Landstill and Ill-Gotten Gains.
- Nationals. Finland (61 players) went to Enchantress. Slovakia (37) went to Emil Polák’s Contamination, with Hermit Druid decks in second and in the semifinals.
- New England Autumn Regional (80 players) was won by Moneyball Black, with a Psychatog list in second.
Repeat winners
- Orla88sp: Enchantress, three ELS league stops in Italy.
- Francesco Messina: Survival with Opposition, Lega Milano on October 9 and 16, with the same 60 cards both times.
- Sun Runtao: mono-black Pox, PM Magic Beijing Holiday #5 and PM Magic Beijing #59.
- Jesse Adams: Terrageddon, in Arizona and at SCG CON Los Angeles.
Off the beaten path
- GW Tireless Tribe won twice: the 45-player Granducato October event in Italy and the Mogg Monthly in the US.
- Ill-Gotten Gains also won twice, at SCG CON Hartford and Lega Milano.
- Stasis won Premodern Fight Club’s Monthly #10 in Barcelona (29 players, Raúl Pérez) and PM Magic Beijing #60.
- Mono-blue Illusions of Grandeur and Donate won LCOS in Barcelona, an old-frame-only event.
Every October event
How this data was collected
- Source. The results MTGTop8 publishes, which we import into /decklists every day, plus the events we publish ourselves. Each event page links to its source.
- In person only. Three online webcam events that came in through the same feed are left out, and so is a team event.
- Top finishes only. Organizers publish the Top 8 or the Top 4, so a deck’s share here is its share of the top tables, not of everyone who played.
- Deck names are the ones each event reported, grouped by us so the same deck counts once: every Replenish build is “Replenish”, every Survival of the Fittest deck except Elves and Hermit Druid is “Survival”, and lists with both Oath of Druids and Terravore are “Oath Ponza”.
Running a Premodern event? Add it to the event board and we’ll post the results when they’re in. Play one of these decks? Write its sideboard guide.
